The Common Denominators of Success! (cocktail party edition)

by Suzy Oge on January 9, 2012

So, I met this guy at a party and we immediately hit it off in a big way.  It’s surprising we’d never met before because we share a close mutual friend. But our dear friend Troy is definitely not all we have in common, there is so much more!

AJ and I are almost the same age and we both experienced a big life change in 2011! You probably wouldn’t be able to guess what we have in common from the photo, but we’ve each lost over 50 pounds… and both of us just started in July 2011!!

Yes! I’ve met someone as excited to talk about my favorite topics of fat loss and weight training as I am! Score!

Sure our results are phenomenal and almost identical, but when you look beyond the weight loss numbers, you actually find the common denominators for success. Here are a few of the many things we discovered we had in common:

– Commitment to work out every day. NO MATTER WHAT!

– STRONG belief in strength training for weight loss.

– Loyalty to our gym and a sense of partnership with our trainer. (I couldn’t convince him to switch to mine, despite my best effort. Although I am still sure he would love it, because The Lab Gym is the best!)

– Wild compliance to a high protein diet. (Neither of us were diving into the bread basket pictured just in front of us:-)

– Partners who are along for the ride and have adapted to a healthier lifestyle.

And my ultimate favorite common denominator…

– Fun lunch boxes (Smurfette & superhero) to be prepared and carry our healthy food on the go in style!

Of course we had fun swapping gym stories and flexing for fun photos. AJ and I are both ambitious, driven people and it was apparent in our very animated discussion that the impact of our body transformations reaches far beyond our bodies or ourselves. We are both energized to live in a new way and are ready to contribute at an entirely different level! (Contributing sounds nicer than conquering the world, but we are ready for that too!) Success is in the details!
