34 Reasons not to wait for New Years Day to Get Fit

Twitter 365 - Ft Yotsuba [258]Are you still coming down from your Halloween Candy induced sugar high? Or are you staring at a giant bowl of  fun-sized candy bars as you read this wishing you either had more willpower or would have had more trick- or- treaters at your door?

Please step away from the candy corn and Butterfingers. It’s November now and the perfect time to start getting fit and strong. Yes, today!

You might be feeling an inevitable slide toward the holidays. The Thanksgiving feast is just around the corner and before you know it Holiday Party season will be in full swing , then Christmas will be here, New Years…feeling heavier yet?

A study on Holiday Season weight gain, published in The New England Journal of Medicine and reported in the New York Times, showed that overweight adults gain five pound or more between Thanksgiving and New Years versus a one pound average gain. The bad news for everyone is that even if you only gain one pound, you are unlikely to ever lose it; instead you are likely to add one more to it the next holiday season and so on.

So why not be proactive? Don’t spend the next two months feeling that starting  now is pointless and futile; while you stuff your face and drink too much at holiday parties, and bake more cookies in the name of Christmas than a person should eat in a lifetime.

You could put off getting started until January 1, 2012, like “everyone else”. But besides being tragically cliche, you would miss a big opportunity to feel great and enjoy the holidays even more!

Hopefully you are feeling it already, but if you still need an extra nudge off the sofa, here are my 34 reasons to start today. New Years is exactly two months away. Two months into the Laser Weight Loss program at the Lab Gym in St. Louis, I had already lost 34 pounds!

Imagine how great you would feel waking up on New Years Eve having already achieved your fitness goal. Trust me; celebrating this kind of achievement is much more fun than celebrating your “last night of overindulgence” again for the fill in the blank______ year in a row!

So get that Halloween Candy out of the house immediately and get yourself to the gym! I never dreamed it could happen so fast and you can make it happen too!
